John Spivey
John N. Spivey, Executive Assistant
Public Defender, was born on October 13th in Jacksonville, Florida.
He attended Wolfson Senior High School in Jacksonville, Florida. He then
attended the University of Central Florida to get a Bachelor of Arts and a
Master’s Degree in Public Administration. He continued on to get his Juris
Doctorate from the University of Arkansas. He started his career in law as soon
as he graduated from law school at the Fifth Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s
Office. He dealt with case types ranging from misdemeanor and criminal traffic
to murder in the first degree where the death penalty was sought. After working
for five years for the Public Defender’s Office, he moved onto working for the
State of Florida as the attorney advisor for the Agriculture Commissioner for a
year. During this time period he became a Board Certified Criminal Trial
Attorney, a title less than 4.6% of all Florida lawyers hold. He then returned to
the Public Defender’s Office for less than a year when Mr. Graves approached
him with the idea of starting a private law firm together and so the great team
of Graves and Spivey was born in 1998. During his time with Graves and Spivey,
P.A. he represented hundreds of defendants and approximately 75 of his cases
were tried to a jury verdict. Although most of Mr. Spivey’s life is dedicated
to his career, when he is not working he spends his time with his daughter and following
college sports.
